"Cabinet Approves Investment for 669 MW Lower Arun Hydro Electric Project in Nepal"

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved an investment of ₹5,792.36 crore for the 669 MW Lower Arun Hydro Electric Project (LAHEP) in Nepal, with a levelized tariff set at ₹4.99 per unit.

The project, featuring four units of 167.25 MW each, is located downstream of the 900 MW Arun-3 Hydro Electric Project on the Arun River in Sankhuwasabha district, Province-1, Nepal. It is expected to generate 2,900 million units of energy annually.

Awarded through international competitive bidding, the LAHEP will be developed on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis with support from the Ministry of Power, Government of India. The project is slated for completion within 60 months from the investment approval date. Power generated will be transmitted via a 217 km, 400 KV double-circuit line under construction to Sitamarhi, Bihar.
