Broekman to set up automotive terminal in AP

Chennai: Broekman Group, a €400-million Netherlands-based company, plans to set up an automotive terminal at Sulurpet in Andhra Pradesh.

It has also evinced interest in the Chennai Port Trust’s plan to put up a multi-layer car park terminal inside the port, said Mr Rajiv Nathan, Vice-President, Broekman Logistics India.

It is too early to give further details as the projects will be part of Government initiatives, he told newspersons.

Mr Nathan said the company operates the Rotterdam Car Terminal specialising in the handling of cars and other Ro-Ro cargo. The terminal covers a bonded area with a storage capacity of 12,000 cars, including a multi-storey warehouse with a capacity of 5,000 cars.

The automotive terminal at Sulurpet will cater to the demands of automobile manufacturers in and around Chennai. It will offer a complete package of services aimed at providing on-time delivery of cars from manufacturers to their customers, the importers and distributors, he said.

Mr Raymond Riemen, CEO, Broekman Group, said in India the company will soon offer door-to-door cargo services. The company currently offers services in import and export of cargo through air, sea and customs clearance.

In 2006, the group took over Courcan (now Broekman Logistics India) and employs around 120 employees in India. The number will increase to 200 by 2009.
