Bridge to Link NH with Lathikata Block.

As work on the Timjor-Tainsor bridge project gains momentum, the three-decade-old demand of people of Lathikata would soon be fulfilled.

The bridge, spanning 612 metres by 7.5 metres, would be the direct link to NH-143 and connect Lathikata block headquarters with 10 panchayats on the western sides of river Brahmani. Acquisition of land on either side of the bridge for about two kms is in progress for construction of approach roads.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had laid the foundation stone for the bridge in January this year and work began in April. Scheduled to be completed in 30 months, the project is estimated to cost Rs. 21.5 crore and the contractor firm, Rajlaxmi Construction, has committed to complete works before time, said Executive Engineer in Rural Development (RD) Department PK Sahu.

Zilla Parishad (ZP) member of Lathikata (C) constituency Parsuram Singh said that the bridge when completed will considerably reduce the distance between the block headquarters and villages on the western side of the river. Poor tribals who travel additional 40 km to 60 km to reach the block headquarter will be benefited, he said. It would also be the shortest route from Lathikata to Maoist-infested Pankadihi and Tamra panchayats in Gurundia block.
