Borosil Renewables to Invest ₹950 Crore for 600 TPD Solar Glass Expansion in Gujarat.
Borosil Renewables Ltd has commenced a significant expansion project in Gujarat, laying the foundation stone for a ₹950-crore investment that will boost its solar glass production capacity by 600 tonnes per day (TPD). This expansion is anticipated to come online in the third quarter of the financial year 2026-27.
The decision to proceed with this substantial expansion was significantly influenced by the Indian government's recent imposition of a definitive anti-dumping duty on all solar glass imports from China and Vietnam for a period of five years.
Pradeep Kheruka, Chairman of Borosil Renewables Ltd, shared insights with businessline, stating, "We had a plan that was discussed 2-3 years ago. Unfortunately, the anti-dumping duty which was previously in place had lapsed, and so due to increased competition, we were not in a position to consider expansion." He added, "After imposition of a provisional anti-dumping duty on imports of solar tempered glass from China and Vietnam in December 2024, we decided to go ahead to revive our expansion plan."
The expansion project, slated for commissioning between October and December 2026, will elevate the total installed capacity of Borosil Renewables' Bharuch unit to 1600 TPD. The company's original plan to expand by 500 TPD has now been revised upwards to 600 TPD to meet the growing demand.
Kheruka highlighted the market dynamics, noting, "The domestic demand for solar glass is twice that being produced in India. Because of the prevailing low prices of solar glass, it was not viable for us to set up a new production line. Now, prices have become viable." The imposition of the anti-dumping duty, effective from December 4, 2024, is expected to create a more equitable competitive environment for domestic manufacturers in the solar glass industry.
