"Bengaluru’s First Suburban Railway Project to Miss August 2025 Deadline"

Bengaluru's first Suburban Rail Project is facing significant delays and is expected to miss its August 2025 deadline. Karnataka's Large and Medium Industries Minister M B Patil voiced his concerns about the slow progress of the project during a review meeting recently.

The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP), with a budget of ₹15,767 crore, was initially set to have its first phase—covering a 7 km stretch from Yesvantpur to Chikkabanavara—operational by August 2025. However, Minister Patil expressed dissatisfaction with the current progress of the project, particularly Corridor-2, which is being handled by L&T. This corridor extends from Byappanahalli to Chikkabanavara.

Patil noted that only 28 percent of the physical work and 22 percent of the financial progress have been completed to date. He questioned the feasibility of meeting the deadline given the current pace of work.

Earlier in February 2024, Patil had assured that all corridors of the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project would be completed by December 2027. “All Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project corridors will be finished by December 2027. K-RIDE has been directed to ensure no further delays, and we remain committed to delivering on time,” he had stated, according to news agency PTI.
