BEML Limited and DMRC Team Up for Upcoming West Asia Metro Projects.

Public sector giants BEML Limited and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) are set to jointly bid for upcoming metro rail projects in West Asia, officials familiar with the development said. The two organisations have identified a pipeline of future projects to target under this strategic partnership.

“Upcoming projects in West Asia are on the crosshairs of this partnership,” a senior official told Economic Times. Previously, DMRC had focused primarily on operations, but the new alliance aims to offer end-to-end services, including rolling stock supply.

The partnership was formalised on Wednesday with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU), establishing a framework for collaboration in jointly identifying, pursuing, and executing metro rail projects.

“Building upon existing orders for metro coaches, this agreement marks a strategic transition from a supply-driven model to a comprehensive EPC-based approach under a single umbrella,” BEML said in a statement, highlighting the export-oriented focus of the partnership.

Shantanu Roy, Chairman & Managing Director of BEML, said the collaboration would strengthen the company’s presence in the rail and metro sector. “BEML's capabilities in manufacturing rolling stock, combined with DMRC's expertise in execution and operation of metro systems, will enable both organisations to offer comprehensive, competitive, and globally benchmarked solutions,” he said.

The MoU is intended to explore areas of mutual interest and foster deeper collaboration in metro rail systems.

Vikas Kumar, DMRC Managing Director, emphasized the need for the development of indigenous technologies, particularly propulsion systems for rolling stock and Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) for projects such as high-speed rail, metro networks, and Regional Rapid Transit Systems (RRTS). “Both organisations should work jointly to develop indigenous TBMs by combining DMRC's technical expertise and execution experience with BEML's world-class design and manufacturing capabilities,” Kumar said.

The partnership represents a significant step in extending India’s metro expertise to international markets, offering integrated solutions from design and supply to operations.
