Bangalore Hospital to set up new facilities

Bangalore: Bangalore Hospital plans to expand further in south Bangalore with a new greenfield hospital, along with setting up an approximately Rs 105-crore lifestyle retirement township, also in the city’s south.

The second facility could be a superspecialty or a cancer hospital off Kanakapura Road; the management is negotiating a five-acre plot for the expansion, estimated at Rs 20 crore, according to Dr C. Munichoodappa, Managing Director of the hospital promoted by 44 specialist doctors.

A public offer is also on the agenda next year once the stock market stabilises, he said.

The 180-bed multi-specialty hospital on Thursday unveiled its new cardiac catheterisation laboratory (cath lab) as part of its Rs 5-crore modernisation and expansion plan, financed through bank debt.
According to Dr Munichoodappa, veteran diabetologist, the new lab, kitted out with GE equipment, would enable highly effective diagnosis of heart ailments and structural heart defects.

Dr K.S. Shekhar, Chairman, said, “The cath lab in The Bangalore Hospital is currently amongst the most advanced in the city. The new system is expected to play a critical role in helping clinicians treat a growing number of chronic heart and vascular conditions.”

The retirement settlement project, Suvidha (short for Sushruta Vishranti Dhama), estimated at Rs 45 crore, will be financed by individual members of the project while another Rs 60 crore will be invested in infrastructure and acquisition of neighbouring properties.
