BALCO Expands Capacity by 0.5 MT, Joins Million Tonne Club.

Bharat Aluminium Company (BALCO), a subsidiary of Vedanta Aluminium, has entered the elite league of global aluminium producers with a production capacity of 1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), following the commissioning of a new 0.5 MTPA capacity.

As part of its ongoing 1 MTPA expansion project, the company has successfully brought online the country’s largest 525 kilo Ampere (kA) smelter. The new 0.435 MTPA potline, which forms a key component of this expansion, has pushed BALCO’s total aluminium production capacity to the 1 MTPA mark.

With this milestone, BALCO is now among a select group of global aluminium producers with million-tonne scale operations, reinforcing its position in both domestic and international markets.
