Bajaj Auto Signals Possible EV Expansion Shift From Maharashtra Amid Regulatory Row.

Bajaj Auto is considering shifting a portion of its electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing out of Maharashtra and directing future EV investments to other states, following a disagreement with the state government over nearly ₹75 crore in unpaid subsidies and restrictions on new auto-rickshaw permits, according to people familiar with the matter.

Industry sources said the company is evaluating the possibility of moving its future EV manufacturing expansion to its facility in Pantnagar in Uttarakhand. It is also considering channeling new investments to states that offer clearer policy support and incentives for electric mobility.

The development has prompted rival states to reach out to Bajaj Auto’s management in an effort to attract the company’s upcoming EV investments. Officials from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have initiated discussions with the automaker as they seek to strengthen their electric mobility ecosystems and draw EV supply chain investments, industry sources said.
