Avalon's new facility to go on stream soon
Chennai: The new facility of Avalon Technologies, an electronic contract manufacturer providing end-to-end solutions to global OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), at Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) is all set to go commercial.
The new facility will see Avalon’s production capacity at MEPZ double to 3.50 lakh components an hour.
The capacity addition involved an investment of Rs. 50 crore.
T. P. Imbichammad, Chairman and Managing Director, said the new facility at MEPZ would generate an additional 1,000 jobs.
A part of the $100 million Sienna Group, Avalon, he said, had also decided to start operations for the Indian market with the setting up of a brand new outfit in the name and style of Avalon Technologies & Services (P) Ltd. to provide contract manufacturing solutions for the Indian market.
The 50,000-sq. ft. facility would come up at Arumbakkam here. This unit would go on stream couple of months hence, he said. Mr. Imbichammad indicated that the Arumbakkam unit would see an investment of Rs. 50 crore over the next two years and generate jobs for 1,000 people.
The Arumbakkam unit, he said, would cater to the hi-tech manufacturing needs in the aerospace and aviation fields. Company officials said that the unit would also help its multinational clients who had bid for the Indian Defence projects to meet the `offset clause’ (which primarily requires a set minimum sourcing from the domestic market).
