ARM opens VLSI test lab

Bangalore: ARM, a company designing microprocessor cores, said it opened a VLSI test lab in its design centre here, which will provide analysis of VLSI libraries and ARM physical IP to correlate design to silicon behaviour.

Test chips developed by ARM will go through final validation at the new VLSI test lab. This will enable ARM partners utilising production-ready IP libraries to reduce their time-to-market cycle. Mr Warren East, Chief Executive Officer, ARM, said the company invested $1 million in the new lab, and plans to take the investment to $2 million before the year-end. This is the second VLSI test lab for ARM, and it would enable the India design centre to provide a full complement of design services to its global partners, the company said.

At present, the company has 350 people in the design centre at Bangalore. There would be about a dozen employees in the new lab, it added.
