Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy recently visited the Polavaram project site in West Godavari district and reviewed the progress of works. It is the first time he is visiting the site after becoming Chief Minister.
He was accompanied by State Irrigation Minister Anil Kumar Yadav, Deputy Chief Minister P Subhashchandra Bose and Agriculture Minister Kurasala Kannababu.
The Chief Minister first conducted an aerial survey of the project site and then held a review meeting with officials.
Later, he met the people affected by the project and assured them of proper relief and rehabilitation. He received representations from them.
Briefing the media after the Chief Minister left the project site, Irrigation Minister Anil Kumar Yadav said there was a temporary stoppage of works due to floods in the Godavari, but the works would be resumed after four months and would be completed in a time-bound manner. “We are aware that the mega irrigation project is the lifeline of the State and the Chief Minister has given clear instructions to officials to take up and complete the works in a time-bound manner,” he said.
Relief and rehabilitation
He said the relief and rehabilitation work would be taken up simultaneously. “For us, proper implementation of the R&R package is as important as the speedy construction of the dam. Mostly, Girijans are affected by the project and we will do justice to them and others as well,” he said.
Agriculture Minister Kurasala Kannababu said that without creating any hype the Chief Minister had reviewed the project works and “we will complete the project works in due course.”
