'AM/NS India looks to expand its capacity to 40 mt by 2035'.
The demand of steel in India will only go up given the country's low per capita consumption and the government's infrastructure push, says Dilip Oommen, the chief executive officer of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India). The company is looking to expand to 40 million tonnes of capacity by 2035 from 9 million tonnes at present, he tells ET's Deborshi Chaki and Nehal Chaliawala in an interview. When asked about the company's plans in the acquisitions space, Oommen drew attention towards the list of acquisitions made by the company that started India operations with the acquisition of Essar Steel from the bankruptcy court in 2019.
