Amazon ramps up quick commerce with 100 urban fulfilment centres, broader product range.
Amazon India is accelerating its quick commerce ambitions with the launch of more than 100 Urban Fulfillment Centres, a new logistics infrastructure layer designed to significantly expand product availability on its Amazon Now platform while maintaining deliveries within minutes.
The announcement marks Amazon’s latest move to strengthen its position in India’s rapidly growing quick commerce market. Less than a year after launching Amazon Now, the company has already scaled the service to more than 300 micro-fulfilment centres across major cities.
The newly introduced Urban Fulfillment Centres will enable Amazon to offer four times more product selection than is currently available through its quick commerce network. In addition to groceries and daily essentials, the facilities will stock a broader range of categories including apparel, electronics, jewellery, footwear, luggage, watches, furniture and musical instruments.
Amazon said the centres will initially be rolled out across Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad and Mumbai, with plans to expand to additional cities over time.
The company has also outlined plans to take Amazon Now to 100 cities, intensifying competition with established quick commerce players such as Blinkit, Zepto and Swiggy Instamart as the sector continues to attract growing consumer demand and investment.
