"Agra Metro hits a new milestone as trial runs begin on Line 1."
The Agra Metro project has taken a significant step forward with the Afcons–SAM India consortium successfully conducting a trial run on Line 1 of the network, officials said.
The trial was carried out on a six-km stretch of Line 1 (Upline Corridor) between Mankameshwar Metro Station and the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT). Senior officials of the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) were present to witness the trials.
Line 1 of the Agra Metro spans 14.25 km from Sikandra to Taj East Gate and comprises 14 stations. The successful trial marks progress towards the full commissioning of this corridor.
The Phase 1 of the Agra Metro project covers a total length of 29.40 km and includes two corridors. While a 5.2-km priority section of Phase 1 is already operational, the remaining stretches are under various stages of execution. The priority corridor was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2024.
Under Phase 1, Line 1 connects Sikandra with Taj East Gate, while Line 2 runs from Agra Cantt. to Kalindi Vihar over a length of 15.40 km with 15 stations. The entire Phase 1 of the Agra Metro project is expected to be completed by 2026, according to officials.
