Afcom Sets Record for Transshipment at Velana International Airport.

AFCOM Holdings Limited, an integrated air cargo solutions company, has announced a record-breaking achievement at Velana International Airport (MLE). In July 2025, the company handled the highest-ever volume of transshipment cargo in the airport's history, solidifying its role as a key player in the region's logistics network.

This milestone for AFCOM is also a landmark moment for Velana International Airport, which saw its transshipment volumes reach unprecedented levels for a single month. AFCOM was the largest contributor to this surge, which has positioned the company as a significant and growing force in the airport's monthly cargo operations.

According to a company release, AFCOM's rapid growth from a modest market share at the beginning of the year is a result of its focus on operational excellence, strategic expansion, and strong collaborations with stakeholders like Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).

The achievement aligns with MLE's long-term vision to become a major air transshipment hub in the Indian Ocean. Both AFCOM and MACL have expressed a shared commitment to enhancing efficiency, infrastructure, and innovative services to further grow the region's air cargo potential.

Leadership Praises Partnership and Future Growth

Hussain Shafiu, Manager of the Cargo Department at MACL, praised AFCOM's contribution to the airport's success. "Afcom has been a key contributor to this success, having uplifted the highest volume of transshipment cargo into MLE in July 2025," he said. Shafiu also noted that MACL is committed to working closely with AFCOM to explore new trade flows, improve ground efficiency, and develop customized service models.

Capt. Deepak Parasuraman, Chairman & Managing Director of AFCOM Holdings Limited, highlighted the importance of this achievement for the company's strategic goals. "This accomplishment is a testament to the agility, precision, and dedication of our operations team, as well as the strength of our partnerships," he stated.

He also emphasized that the Maldives serves as a strategic junction in AFCOM's expanding regional network, connecting corridors across South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. "We see this not as a peak, but as a foundation for the next phase of growth," he added, signaling AFCOM's continued focus on enhancing its transshipment capabilities and unlocking new regional cargo opportunities.
