Adani solar project generates 630 MW.

The Adani group's 648 MW solar power plant at Kamudhi in the district, claimed to be the world’s largest solar plant at a single location, has generated the maximum of 630 MW during this summer as the backward district emerged on top in generating green power.

The Group’s Adani Green Energy (Tamil Nadu) Ltd., Kamuthi Renewable Energy Ltd. and Ramnad Solar Power Ltd. had established the plant at a total outlay of ₹4,536 crore in 2,500 acres at Sengapadai in Kamuthi taluk, and after their formal inauguration in September last year, the units achieved a milestone, generating 630 MW on March 26.

After installing 2.5 million modules, the company has set up three units each with 72 MW and two units each with 216 MW capacities. “All the five units have started generating power and the entire solar power generated in the district was drawn to the grid through the 400/230/110 Kv sub-station at Kamudhi,” official sources said.

As the temperature remained high for most of the days during this summer, solar power generated by the Adani Group firms and a few other minor players hovered around 550 and 600 MW on most of the days in April and May, they said. After the drop in temperature, the generation came down to a low of 464 MW recently, they added.

Besides, Crescent Power Ltd has set up a 15 MW unit at Melamudimannar Kottai near Kamudhi and GRT Jewellers India Private Ltd has set up two units each with 5 MW capacity at Pambur and one unit with 5 MW capacity at Kamudhi. Emami Cement too has set up a 3 MW capacity unit at Perunali.
