Adani Power to Build 1,000 MW Plant for Bihar Utility.
Adani Power Ltd has secured a 25-year contract to supply electricity to Bihar, a move that will see the company build a new 2,400-megawatt (MW) thermal power plant in the state.
The company announced Friday it has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from the Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd (BSPGCL) for the long-term power purchase agreement. The electricity will be supplied from a new ultra-supercritical plant, which Adani Power plans to build in Pirpainti, located in the Bhagalpur district of Bihar.
The LoA was awarded on behalf of the state's two power distribution companies, North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. A formal Power Supply Agreement will be signed by the entities following this award.
"With our upcoming ultra-supercritical, high-efficiency Pirpainti project in Bihar, we are setting new benchmarks in operational excellence and sustainability," said S.B. Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power. He added that the new plant will provide "affordable and uninterrupted power to the people of Bihar," which he believes will help boost industrialization and strengthen the state's economy.
The project reinforces Adani Power's position as a major player in India's energy sector.
