Adani Power Launches ₹48,000 Crore Assam Power Project

Adani Power has laid the foundation stone for a major 3,200 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power project at Chapar in Assam’s Dhubri district, marking one of the largest proposed investments in the Northeast’s power sector.

The project entails an estimated investment of ₹48,000 crore and is planned as a major addition to Assam’s electricity-generation infrastructure. Once completed, the plant is expected to become the largest power-generation facility in Northeast India, substantially increasing generation capacity in the region.

The proposed plant will use ultra-supercritical technology, which operates at higher temperatures and pressures than conventional coal-fired plants. The technology is designed to improve thermal efficiency and reduce coal consumption and emissions per unit of electricity generated.

Beyond power generation, construction of a project of this scale is expected to create demand across engineering, construction, logistics, equipment manufacturing and associated infrastructure, while generating employment during the development phase.

The Chapar project also represents a significant expansion of Adani Power’s presence in Northeast India. Its development could strengthen Assam’s role in the regional power network while supporting rising electricity requirements from households, industries and new infrastructure projects across the Northeast.
