Adani Power Gears Up for Nuclear Ventures, Lining Up Land and SPVs.

Adani Power Ltd, India’s largest private sector thermal power producer with an installed capacity of over 18 GW, is laying the groundwork for nuclear energy projects, focusing on land aggregation, corporate structuring, and regulatory readiness. The move is aimed at enabling rapid scaling once policy clarity improves.

“So far, the government of India has not notified the rules, so we are only getting ourselves ready. As and when the rules come, it will give us clarity about the size, capacity, etc. At this stage, we are only preparing ourselves. Therefore, we are identifying sites. Wherever we have a site, we are applying for approvals. So we are preparing ourselves to move fast,” said S.B. Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power, during an investor call earlier this week.

Khyalia emphasized that the company is currently focused on site identification and securing approvals to ensure it can “move fast” once the regulatory framework is in place.

Importantly, Adani Power clarified that it does not intend to repurpose existing thermal assets for nuclear projects. “In our case, these are new sites and will not be existing thermal sites,” Khyalia said, signaling a preference for dedicated greenfield nuclear developments.
