Adani Ports Places ₹450 Crore Order for 8 Tugs with Cochin Shipyard.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has placed a ₹450-crore order with Cochin Shipyard for the construction of eight tugs, the company announced on Friday. The tugs are scheduled for delivery between December 2026 and May 2028, aiming to enhance the efficiency and safety of vessel operations at Indian ports.

“These tugs will not only improve operational efficiency but also contribute to the ‘Make in India’ initiative by leveraging world-class local manufacturing capabilities,” said Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director & CEO of APSEZ.

APSEZ has previously collaborated with Cochin Shipyard for the construction of two 62-tonne bollard pull ASD (Azimuthing Stern Drive) tugs for its subsidiary, Ocean Sparkle Ltd. Both tugs were delivered ahead of schedule and are now operational at Paradeep Port and New Mangalore Port.

Additionally, three more ASD tugs are under construction at Cochin Shipyard, bringing APSEZ’s total tug fleet order to 13. The initiative is part of the company’s strategy to modernize its fleet, ensuring reliable and efficient port services.

The new order underscores APSEZ’s commitment to bolstering maritime infrastructure in line with international safety and operational standards while supporting domestic shipbuilding capabilities.
