22 cos shows interest in Chennai terminal project
Chennai: Large Indian companies and global container terminal operators have evinced keen interest in developing the Rs 3,105-crore mega container terminal at Chennai port.
Larsen &Toubro, Reliance Industries, IL&FS, IDFC Projects, Navayuga, GVK and global terminal operators such as AP Maersk, CMA-CGM and DP World were among the 22 companies that participated in today’s pre-application meeting on the project that is planned to come up in the Outer Harbour, north of the port’s Bharathi Dock.
The project will be developed on a build, operate and transfer basis and will have a 2-km long quay with an alongside depth of 22 metres. The terminal will be able to handle ultra large container ships of 18,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units).
The Chennai Port Trust Chairman, Mr K. Suresh, and officials clarified nearly 180 queries raised by participants on the mega terminal. The port trust extended the bid submission by a month to July 30, according to a ChPT press release.
