117 roads in Mumbai to be widened to ease traffic.
The number of vehicles in the city are increasing and the traffic congestion with it is also on the rise, the traffic on Mumbai roads moves at snail’s pace during the peak hours and so to ease the traffic in the city BMC has come up with a new road widening project, in which at least 117 roads in Mumbai are going to be widened and 70 new link roads are going to be built.
According to Hindustan Times report, 117 roads in Mumbai are going to widened to ease the traffic in the city, Colaba Causeway, DN Road in Fort are among other 117 roads that will be widened. The civic body will also be looking to build around 70 link roads which will connect the roads within the city. The Express Highway and Lady Jamshedji Cross Road near Mahim, Dr E Moses road and Lala Lajpatrai road, and Madh Marve and Madh Jetty to name a few.
Among the other roads to be widened are Madam Cama road near Mantralaya, Bhulabhai Desai Road at Malabar Hill, Mahim-Sion Link road, Senapati Bapat Marg near Mahim, and the link road near Andheri and Goregaon, among many others.
The BMC is also planning on coming down hard on street encroachment; removing encroachment will be a one big challenge for BMC. Under Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) this action will be carried out, phase one of this plan will be completed by next year.
BMC is most likely to spend Rs 7,962 crore for short-term measures which is a part of the action plan which will be executed by different government agencies phase wise. Short term (2016-2019), midterm (2020-2024) and long term (2025-2034) are the phases created by the civic body based on the CMP report.
