Work on Mysuru-Kushalanagar National Highway Accelerates.

The construction of the 92.3-km Mysuru-Kushalanagar access-controlled national highway is progressing rapidly, with plans to open it for motorists by June 2027. Once completed, the highway will significantly reduce travel time between the two tourism hubs, Mysuru and Kushalanagar, to just one to one-and-a-half hours.

The new highway is expected to enhance economic activities between Kodagu, Mysuru, and Bengaluru, with the travel time between Kushalanagar and Bengaluru also set to decrease to three to three and a half hours.

According to sources in the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), about 80% of the land required for the Greenfield project is already available. Ongoing discussions with the forest department are aimed at obtaining clearance for work on forest land.

This four-lane access-controlled road will begin at Paschimavahini near Srirangapatna and end at Guddehosur, Kushalnagar, in Kodagu district. The road will have a Right of Way (RoW) of 45 metres in urban areas and 60 metres in rural areas. Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for the project in March 2023, with its completion initially planned for 2026.

Mysuru MP Yaduveer Wadiyar confirmed that the construction will be divided into four packages, with work expected to conclude by June 2027. The total project cost is estimated at ₹4,129 crore, as approved by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

Current land acquisition status shows 82% of the land is in possession for Package 2 (Guddehosur-Kushalnagar bypass to Hassan-Periyapatna Road Junction), and the same extent of land is secured for Package 5 (Ramanathapura Terakanambi Road, KR Nagar Junction in Hunsur to Yalachahalli). For Package 3 (Hemmige village to Hassan-Periyapatna Road junction), 80% of the 136 hectares required has been acquired, while 70% of the 161.8 hectares needed for Package 4 (Ramanathapura Terakanambi Road to Yalachahalli) is available.
