Singareni Collieries to Build 500 MW Pumped Storage Plant at Medipally.

State-run coal producer Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has announced ambitious plans to construct a 500 MW pumped storage power plant at the site of its defunct Medipally opencast mine in the Ramgundam-1 area. The project, estimated to cost ₹3,000 crore, marks a significant diversification for the company and a pioneering step for Telangana's energy landscape.

This will be Telangana's first pumped storage power plant, a crucial development for grid stability and renewable energy integration in the state.

N Balaram, SCCL Chairman and Managing Director, stated, "After completing the preliminary studies, the company has issued a Letter of Award to the public sector undertaking WAPCOS Limited, assigning them the responsibility of preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR)." The DPR will outline the comprehensive plan for the plant's development.
