"ABB to Enhance Mumbai Metro Lines 5 & 6 with Advanced Propulsion and Train Control Systems."
ABB has secured a significant order from Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd. to provide advanced propulsion systems and Train Control and Management System (TCMS) software for Mumbai Metro’s Line 5 (Orange Line) and Line 6 (Pink Line).
Mumbai Metro Line 5 stretches 24.9 km, connecting Thane, Bhiwandi, and Kalyan through 15 stations, while Line 6 spans 15.31 km, linking Swami Samarth Nagar and Vikhroli (EEH) via 13 stations. Under the contract, ABB will supply 22 six-car trainsets for Line 5 and 18 six-car trainsets for Line 6, delivering a complete, integrated traction and control solution.
The scope includes traction converters, auxiliary converters, traction motors, and TCMS software, designed to ensure high reliability, energy efficiency, and optimized lifecycle performance for one of India’s largest urban mobility initiatives.
ABB confirmed that the manufacturing will take place within its Indian operations, with converters produced in Bengaluru and motors in Vadodara, supported by local engineering, testing, and service teams.
This collaboration reinforces ABB’s commitment to supporting India’s expanding metro infrastructure with cutting-edge rail technology.
