INOX Air Products Commissions Green Hydrogen Plant for Asahi India Glass.
INOX Air Products (INOXAP) has commissioned its first green hydrogen manufacturing plant at Asahi India Glass’ (AIS) greenfield float glass facility in Soniyana, Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. This marks India's first use of green hydrogen in the float glass manufacturing process, setting a new benchmark for sustainable glass production.
AIS has entered into a 20-year offtake agreement with INOXAP for the supply of green hydrogen to the facility. Powered by solar energy, the plant will generate up to 190 tonnes of green hydrogen per year through electrolysis. In the initial phase, 95 tonnes per annum (TPA) will be supplied to AIS. As part of the agreement, AIS has invested in a solar power plant that will provide renewable energy for hydrogen production, which will then be utilized in its float glass manufacturing process.
INOXAP is responsible for the design, engineering, installation, operations, and continuous supply of green hydrogen to AIS over the 20-year contract period.
Siddharth Jain, Managing Director of INOX Air Products, called the project a milestone, stating, “Our first green hydrogen plant is also India’s first-ever for the float glass sector. Green hydrogen will play a pivotal role in India’s energy transition towards decarbonization and a secure energy future.”
AIS has established the Chittorgarh facility with technology collaboration from AGC Europe to produce high-quality float glass for automotive and architectural applications. The partnership with INOXAP aligns with AIS’s broader sustainability strategy to reduce the carbon footprint of its manufacturing process.
