In a significant move toward bolstering industrial cooperation, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) and Safran Aircraft Engines have formalized their partnership through a memorandum of understanding (MoU). This collaboration will focus on ring forging manufacturing for commercial engines, marking a pivotal milestone in their long-standing relationship.
As part of this mutually beneficial venture, HAL is poised to take on the production of LEAP (Leading Edge Aviation Propulsion) engine forgings at its state-of-the-art foundry and forge facility located in Bengaluru.
The LEAP engine powers renowned aircraft like the Airbus A320 Neo family and the Boeing 737 Max.
CB Ananthakrishnan, Chairman and Managing Director (Additional Charge) of HAL, expressed his enthusiasm for the extended collaboration with Safran. He highlighted the enduring partnership between the two organizations, citing their joint development of the Shakti helicopter engine. Additionally, he emphasized their joint efforts to co-design and co-produce the next-generation IMRH engine with Safran, underscoring their shared commitment to advancing key technologies.
The MoU was formally inked during a ceremony in Bengaluru, with Mihir Kanti Mishra, CEO (Bangalore Complex) of HAL, and Dominique Dupuy, Senior Vice-President (Purchasing) of Safran Aircraft Engines, putting pen to paper. The event was attended by key officials from both HAL and Safran, marking the importance of this collaborative initiative.
Jean-Paul Alary, CEO of Safran Aircraft Engines, expressed his delight in expanding their collaboration with HAL. He noted that HAL was already an integral part of the LEAP Supply Chain and highlighted their joint venture in Bengaluru, which is dedicated to the production of aero-engine pipes.
In addition to the MoU, an Industrial Cooperation Contract was signed by Anil Kumar VN, GM (F&F) of HAL, and Jean Michel, Strategy Director and India Development for Safran Military Division, further solidifying the commitment of both organizations to this strategic partnership.
