Construction of 23-Km road begun in Laghman
Mehtarlam: Construction work of a 23-kilometer long road launched in Laghman province with funding from the United States.
Governor of Laghman province Lutfullah Mashal opened the road building work connecting Alishang district to the provincial capital Mehtarlam city on Sunday.
The road with seven meters width and 23 kilometers length will be built with $8 millions funding from the American-led Provincial Reconstruction Team based in the Laghman, said the governor in the official opening ceremony.
The construction of the road will take one and a half years, according to the governor.
The governor said the people of Alishang will be able to travel to the provincial capital easily after the road is built and will also ease up the governments monitoring of the forests in the area.
Mashal said after this road is finished, another 23-kilometrs long road to connect Alishang with Dawlat Shah District will be built with a $9 million fund.
These roads are part of a ring road to link the eastern provinces to the Northern provinces through Panjshir province in the middle, said the governor.
Governor of Alishang district Muhammad Qasim Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News thousands of local residents have got jobs in the road project.
A local tribal elder Muhammad Rahim said they will be happy to see their roads are built.
