Tata Motors to Set Up 4 Lakh EV Charging Points Across India by 2027.

In a major push to strengthen India's electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, Tata Motors' electric vehicle unit has announced a large-scale initiative to install 4 lakh charging points and 30,000 public chargers by 2027. As part of its “Collaboration 2.0” strategy, Tata Motors will partner with multiple charging point operators to establish a widespread and efficient charging network.

Phase One: Mega Chargers in Key EV Markets

In the first phase, Tata.ev will install 500 high-capacity (120 kW) mega chargers in major EV hubs, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune, and key highways with high vehicular traffic. These chargers will be strategically placed in malls, tech parks, and commercial areas to improve accessibility.

To execute this, Tata Motors has signed agreements with Tata Power, Statiq, ChargeZone, and Zeon to operationalize the chargers by 2027.

“There are about 18,000 public chargers today, and we aim to increase that to 30,000. Home and community charging will also be a major focus. We are working on converting office buildings and other locations to support charging infrastructure,” said Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.

Unified Charging and Cost Reduction Efforts

Tata.ev is also launching a unified RFID card that will enable consumers to charge their vehicles seamlessly across different charging networks.

Additionally, Tata Motors is actively working toward reducing EV costs to achieve price parity with traditional vehicles.

“If mainstreaming has to happen, the ₹10-₹15 lakh segment needs to overcome all barriers. We are focusing on localization and cost reduction across various subsystems. While battery prices have stabilized, design interventions can help further bring down costs,” said Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.

Tata Motors is targeting an affordable EV model with a 400-km range priced under ₹10 lakh, marking a significant step toward mass EV adoption in India.
