Surgical Instruments to Establish ₹231-Crore Facility in Hyderabad
In a significant move towards global expansion and an entry into the Indian market, the UK-based Surgical Instruments Group Holdings (SIGH) has announced plans to establish a manufacturing facility in Hyderabad. The company intends to invest ₹231 crore over the next two to three years in this venture, marking a strategic step in its commitment to the Indian healthcare sector.
The decision to invest in India was formalized during a meeting between Gouri Sridhara, Managing Director of SIGH, and Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at Davos on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum.
The Hyderabad facility is set to manufacture a range of medical devices, including general surgical instruments, precision surgical instruments for micro-surgeries, orthopedic power tools, dermatomes used in maxo surgery, ophthalmic instruments, and minimally invasive surgery devices during its initial phase. Subsequently, in phase 2, the facility will expand its production to include robotic medical devices.
SIGH, a supplier to the UK's National Health Service (NHS), Ministry of Defence (Army), and private hospitals, has its headquarters in Milton Keynes and manufacturing facilities in Turkey and Germany. With a history of acquisitions, SIGH has integrated 11 companies into its portfolio, including well-known brands such as Osborn & Simmons, Valeplan, Decon sciences, and Heinz Waldrik, among others.
The move is expected to not only contribute to the advancement of healthcare technology in India but also generate employment opportunities and boost the region's economy.
