Siemens wins PTA compressor train package for SABIC project
Siemens Energy has bagged an order for the supply of a new purified terephthalic acid (PTA) compressor train for Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC) project.
CTCI Corporation, Taiwan’s largest engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company, has placed the order for the expansion of the Ibn Rushd PTA plant in Saudi Arabia.
The order is for delivery of new PTA compressor train in May 2012 and also for modernizing the existing PTA compressor train at the Yanbu Al-Bahr based plant in Saudi Arabia.
The earlier train was also acquired from Siemens and its excellent performance has led to the follow-up order which would enable SABIC to revamp and enhance its PTA production capacities, according to Ralf Kannefass, head of the turbo equipment business segment in the Siemens Energy Oil and Gas Division.
The new compressor train will have a gear-type air compressor, a steam turbine, an expander, and a motor with auxiliaries and control systems. It will have a PTA production capacity of 350,000 tons per annum, the same as the currently installed capacity at the Yanbu plant.
