Samsung completes $325mn Bahrain STP project.

Samsung Engineering has held a ceremony in Bahrain to mark the completion of the $325mn Muharraq Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) project, which is the first of its kind in the MENA region.

The firm is part of a consortium alongside Abu Dhabi state investor, Invest AD, and UK water firm United Utilities which has gained a 30-year concession to build and operate the plant.

The first three years have been spent on construction of the sewage treatment plant with a 16.5km deep gravity sewer system and an incinerator. It has a capacity to process 100,000 tons of sewer water per day.

Samsung Engineering & United Utilities will now operate and maintain the plant for the remaining 27 years.
