SAIL to set up three units in Madya pradesh
New Delhi: The Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) is setting up three steel processing units (SPU) in Madhya Pradesh for manufacturing various types of steel items used by the construction industry.
The foundation stone for the first two units in Ujjain and Hosangabad have been laid during the week by the Minister for Steel, Mr Ram Vilas Paswan. The company plans to invest Rs 100 crore in the Ujjain unit and Rs 154 for the Hosangabad unit, a company release said.
Detailed investment plans for the Gwalior unit are yet to be finalised.
The Ujjain unit will produce TMT bars from billets supplied from the Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) and will have an annual capacity of one lakh tonne.
The Hosangabad unit will manufacture angles, channels, beams, joists and also TMT bars. SAIL is in the process of setting up 10 SPUs in six States where it does not have any production facility to meet the market demand for tailor-made steel products and to help increase per capita steel consumption in rural areas, the release said.
These SPUs will use products such as hot-rolled coils, billets and TMT bars produced by SAIL’s main integrated steel plants to manufacture a wide range of commonly used steel items for catering to rural demand.
The company’s first SPU, being set up in Bihar, is expected to become operational by August this year. The company is investing around Rs 236 crore for the Bihar unit which will have an annual capacity of 2.65 lakh tonnes of TMT bars and pipes.
