SABIC Agri-Nutrients Awards EPC Contract to Samsung E&A for Major Saudi Ammonia-Urea Complex

Project to add 1.2 million tonnes of annual ammonia capacity and 2.6 million tonnes of urea production

Saudi Arabia’s SABIC Agri-Nutrients Company (SABIC AN) has taken the final investment decision for a major new ammonia and urea production complex and awarded the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to Samsung E&A, marking a significant addition to the Kingdom’s downstream industrial investment pipeline.

The planned complex will include a new ammonia production facility with an annual capacity of 1.2 million tonnes, along with two urea plants offering combined production capacity of approximately 2.6 million tonnes per year.

Construction of the project is scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026, while commercial production is targeted to begin in the fourth quarter of 2030.

The development represents a major expansion of SABIC Agri-Nutrients’ production infrastructure and is expected to reinforce Saudi Arabia’s position as an important global producer and exporter of fertilisers and agricultural nutrients.

Awarding the EPC package to Samsung E&A will move the project into its engineering and construction phase. A development of this scale is expected to generate substantial procurement and subcontracting opportunities across the industrial construction supply chain.

Potential requirements include process equipment, compressors, pumps, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping, valves, structural steel, electrical systems, instrumentation, automation and storage infrastructure, as well as civil and mechanical construction services.

The investment also aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to expand value-added industrial production and develop downstream industries using the Kingdom’s energy and feedstock resources.

Once operational, the new complex will significantly expand SABIC AN’s ammonia and urea capacity, while creating a major four-year project opportunity for engineering contractors, equipment manufacturers and specialist suppliers serving Saudi Arabia’s industrial sector.
