Punj Lloyd has bagged an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to set up Qatar's first plant for manufacture of polysilicon, the raw material used to build solar cells.
The contract has been awarded by Qatar Solar Technologies (QSTec) and is scheduled to be commissioned by mid-2013.
It added that the EPC contract awarded to the Indian conglomerate involves the establishment of 4,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) of polysilicon manufacturing capacity. The total envisaged capacity of the plant is 8,000 TPA of high-purity solar grade polysilicon at an investment of USD 1 billion.
