PM GatiShakti: 396 Infrastructure Projects Valued at ₹18.66 Lakh Crore Recommended for Approval.

As many as 396 infrastructure projects across various ministries, including roads and railways, with a combined estimated cost of ₹18.66 lakh crore have been recommended for approval under the PM GatiShakti initiative, according to government data.

The projects have been evaluated by the Network Planning Group (NPG), constituted under the PM GatiShakti initiative launched on October 13, 2021.

According to the data, all 396 projects evaluated through the NPG mechanism have been sanctioned, while 198 are currently under implementation.

PM GatiShakti was launched to promote integrated infrastructure development and help reduce logistics costs by improving connectivity and coordination across different modes of transport. All logistics and connectivity infrastructure projects involving investments of more than ₹500 crore are routed through the NPG for evaluation.

Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on August 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the government must focus on ensuring "seamless and fast connectivity across the country" under the GatiShakti initiative.

Experts said the initiative needs to go beyond connecting major cities and ports and focus on the entire logistics chain, from factories to consumers.

"Physical infrastructure creates capacity; digital orchestration converts that capacity into commerce," said Suryansh Jalan, CBO at FarEye. He added that the next phase of India's logistics transformation would depend on integrating multimodal infrastructure with real-time visibility, intelligent routing and predictable last-mile execution.

Such integration, he said, could lower the cost of movement, improve the competitiveness of Indian businesses and strengthen India's logistics network as a strategic economic advantage.
