NTPC, Ceylon Electricity Board JV to build 500 mw coal power plant at Trincomalee

NTPC, Ceylon Electricity Board JV  to build  500 mw coal power plant at  Trincomalee National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Ceylon Electricity Board JV to build a 500 mw coal power plant at Sampur in the Trincomalee district of Eastern Province of Sri Lanka, and the formal agreement would be signed in September. The agreements will be signed by the secretaries of Sri Lanka and India Ministries of Power and Energy.

National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) of India will begin construction of the plant in 2012, and the plant is scheduled to be connected to the national grid in 2017. The joint venture between NTPC and the Ceylon Electricity Board will cost $500m.
