"NLC India Embarks on Development of Over 11 GW Thermal-Cum-Renewable Projects"
NLC India Ltd. (NLCIL), a prominent player in lignite and power sectors, has announced its ambitious plans to implement an array of power projects, encompassing both thermal and solar energy, with a cumulative capacity exceeding 11 GW. Notably, the company is on track to finalize its lignite-to-methanol project by March 2027.
Among its key initiatives, NLC India is poised to introduce approximately 5.6 GW of solar energy capacity across the nation. These projects are slated to become operational between March 2024 and FY28, as disclosed by the company's management during their Q2FY24 earnings call.
Some of the notable renewable energy projects in the pipeline include a substantial 600 MW solar venture in Khavda, Gujarat, sourced from GSECL's solar park tender (comprising 300 MW plus an additional 300 MW under the Greenshoe option). Additionally, the company is actively engaged in developing a 1000 MW solar power project in Assam through a joint venture (JV) mode, as well as an 810-MW solar undertaking in collaboration with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Nigam Ltd (RRVUNL), among others.
In parallel, NLC India is making significant strides in the thermal power sector with plans to implement 5.7 GW of coal-fired projects. These include the 1980 MW project of Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Ltd, a joint venture between NLCIL and UPRVUNL known as the Ghatampur Thermal Power Project (GTPP), 2400 MW of the NLC Talabira Thermal Power Project, and the expansion of the 1320-MW lignite-based Thermal Power Project TPS II. These projects collectively underline NLC India's commitment to bolstering the nation's power infrastructure and diversifying its energy portfolio.
