NHA to build roads, bridges worth Rs 402 billion

Lahore: Chairman National Highway Authority (NHA) Altaf Ahmed Chaudhry has said that authority would construct 30 km road from Lahore to Wahga at the cost of Rs 10 billion with the support of Friends of Pakistan. He also said that the authority would spend Rs 402 billion on the development of roads and bridges from 2009 to 2012.

He was delivering a lecture on Development, Maintenance and Spending of NHA network organised by Institution of Engineers Pakistan on Monday. He also said that Iran would be connected with land route via Gawadar with the help of 60Km road, which would be completed in June.

The road would be completed at the cost of Rs 10 billion. Discussing the future projects he said that they are working on the Lowari tunnel which would be completed at the cost of Rs 150 billion. He said that the project would be completed till 2011.

Altaf also said that they hoped that they would get a handsome amount of money from the Friends of Pakistan. He said that they are also working on the project of Lahore to Karachi motor way. He said that authority is spending RS 124 billion on the on going projects.

Altaf said that the authority would spend Rs 402 billion on the development of roads and bridges from 2009 to 2012. Altaf said due to the quality work of the authority the government has given them the additional responsibility of building roads and bridges in Larkana and Multan. He also said that the Punjab government has also contacted authority to start construction work on the Muzaffargarh to DG Khan motorway.
