Govt Proposes Taskforce to Achieve 500 GW Non-Fossil Fuel Capacity by 2030.

India's Minister of New & Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, recently proposed the creation of a taskforce, in consultation with the Ministry of Power, to address critical issues such as land acquisition and transmission infrastructure. This initiative aims to help achieve the ambitious target of 500 gigawatts (GW) of installed non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.

Speaking at the inauguration of a Chintan Shivir in Bhubaneswar, Joshi described the 500 GW goal as a "clarion call for action," emphasizing the urgency of meeting this target. He suggested that the taskforce align the efforts of all stakeholders, focusing on resolving the key challenges in the renewable energy sector.

The two-day brainstorming session, organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), brings together top government officials, industry experts, and other stakeholders. Joshi highlighted several critical issues raised during discussions, including difficulties related to land acquisition, transmission infrastructure, power purchase agreements (PPAs), and energy storage solutions.

The Minister urged the participants of the Chintan Shivir to work collaboratively towards crafting a comprehensive roadmap to overcome these hurdles, leveraging collective wisdom to achieve the 500 GW target.

Joshi also expressed optimism about the commitments made during the RE-Invest Summit, where over ₹32 lakh crore in investments and 540 GW of renewable energy projects were announced. He stressed that these commitments can be realized through strong collaboration among industry players, government bodies, and financial institutions.

Minister of State for New & Renewable Energy and Power, Shripad Yesso Naik, reaffirmed the government's continued support for technological innovations in the clean energy sector. Meanwhile, MNRE Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh emphasized the Ministry’s dedication to addressing sector challenges and delivering clear, implementable policies.

Power Secretary Pankaj Agrawal focused on the transmission and energy storage challenges, urging participants to focus on practical, actionable solutions to these issues.
