Coastal Road's Final Bridge Span Ready to Connect with Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
One of the final bridge spans connecting the north-bound section of the Mumbai Coastal Road to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) was successfully transported from Karanja Port in Navi Mumbai to Worli on Monday evening. The installation of the 44-meter span is scheduled for Tuesday, with Wednesday designated as a backup date. Following this, the erection of the last 60-meter span will take place.
A civic official noted, "Once this barge and assembly finish the present job for the 44-meter span installation, it goes back to receive the last span of 60 meters." The completion of the 60-meter span, expected by next weekend, will finalize the connections for both northbound and southbound routes linking the Coastal Road to the sea link. This section, like the already operational connector, will consist of four spans.
Previously, two spans—a 120-meter arch bridge and a 46-meter span adjoining the BWSL—were erected in April. Currently, the connector to the sea link is open to traffic, allowing motorists to transition directly from the Coastal Road. However, those traveling from the sea link to Marine Drive must exit near the sea link and then re-enter the Coastal Road, as the two-way connector has not yet been activated.
The Mumbai Coastal Road has been progressively opened since March 2024, with full commissioning still pending. The northbound connector from the Coastal Road to the sea link was inaugurated on September 12 and opened to traffic the following day.
