Ceylon EB Engineers Union gets controversial project

Colombo: The much debated tender, for the eight kilometer long power line in Beliatta, was Friday handed over to the Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers Union by Power and Energy Minister W. D. J. Seneviratne.

He called the Engineers’ Union President J. Meegoda and conveyed his decision.

A senior engineer said the CEB engineers tendered much lesser than the lowest bid offered. The lowest bid was rupees 600 million but the CEB engineers quoted only rupees 400 million.

The Union also said that Minister Seneviratne had assured all unions that he would present the new bill on the CEB in Parliament on June 17 only after seeking the views and opinions of the trade unions.
