Vidyasagar Gives Maha Boost to Karimnagar's Smart City Dream.
Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao has promised to recommend to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu to include Karimnagar town in the 100 Smart Cities Scheme.
Recalling earlier municipal programmes which he had attended as an ex-officio member, Rao said, 'I can never forget the cooperation of Karimnagar people and their blessings which helped me occupy various posts including that of Governor'.
Rao, who visited his home town on Saturday for the first time after becoming the Governor of Maharashtra, was felicitated at a programme at the KMC.
Speaking on the occasion, Vidyasagar Rao said the bridge across the river Godavari at Kaleswaram would be inaugurated in August. 'Once it's opened, the road network between Maharashtra and Telangana will improve a lot,' he said.
Following State finance minister E Rajender’s request, he promised to initiate steps to solve water disputes between Telangana and Maharashtra. In the same breath, the Governor appealed to the people to respect women and stop female foeticide.
MP B Vinod Kumar recalled how Vidyasagar Rao had struggled for a separate Telangana state on a par with TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao. Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar and Mayor S Ravinder Singh requested the Governor to impress upon the Centre to include Karimangar in 100 Smart Cities Scheme.
Vidayasagar Rao also laid the foundation for waste management sheds being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 30 lakh. He also participated in a Swachh Bharat programme at the Government Civil Hospital along with ZP xhairperson Tula Uma, MLA Gangula Kamalakar, KMC Mayor S Ravinder Singh and others.
