In a significant move toward bolstering India's electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, Tata Power EV Charging Solutions Ltd (TPEVCSL) announced on Monday the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). The collaboration aims to deploy over 500 electric vehicle charging points across the country, strategically positioned at IOCL's extensive network of retail outlets.
The partnership focuses on creating a robust and extensive intercity charging network, aiming to address range anxiety for EV owners traveling between cities. The EV charging points are set to be established in key urban centers such as Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Pune, and Kochi. Additionally, they will be strategically positioned along major highways, including the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Salem-Kochi Highway, Guntur-Chennai Highway, and the Golden Quadrilateral.
Virendra Goyal, Head of Business Development - EV Charging at Tata Power, emphasized the significance of leveraging IOCL's widespread presence to establish fast and superfast charging points in multiple regions, contributing to accessibility and inclusivity for a sustainable electric mobility future.
To enhance user experience and convenience, customers can utilize the "Tata Power EZ Charge" and "IndianOil e-Charge" apps to locate and book the charging stations seamlessly.
IOCL envisions an ambitious plan to provide 10,000 EV charging stations by 2024, transforming its retail network into comprehensive energy solutions outlets. Currently boasting more than 6,000 EV charging stations, the company plans to further expand its reach, according to Shri Saumitra Shrivastava, Executive Director (Retail-N&E) at IOCL.
Tata Power has an existing EV charging infrastructure spanning over 420 cities in India, featuring over 62,000 home chargers, 4,900 public and semi-public charging points, and 430 bus charging stations. This collaboration with IOCL marks a significant step forward in establishing a robust and widespread EV charging network, further promoting the adoption of electric vehicles in the country.
