'Smart' plans on the anvil for Tirupati development.
A CCTV facility equipped with face recognition system captures the image of a professional offender in a crowd and alerts the police department. The sewage water management department gets an alert two days ahead of a possible drainage overflow. The civic officials get to know how many houses the garbage collectors have visited/skipped for the day.
A computer-linked water distribution system calculates the water requirement of a particular colony by accessing the ward-wise population records. All these are some of the smart solutions that can actually become a reality in the temple city of Tirupati soon.
At a programme on ‘Transforming Tirupati in a smarter way’ organised by the TANSTIA-FNF Service Centre (TFSC) and the Federation for Small and Medium Enterprises (FSME) here on Tuesday, Tirupati Municipal Commissioner Ch. Hari Kiran gave a gist of the smart solutions on the anvil, going beyond the drinking water, housing, sewerage management and other regular duties of a civic body.
He said ₹1,000 crore would be spent on developmental projects in Tirupati in the next three years.
The corridor from the railway station to Alipiri, used mostly by the visiting pilgrims, would be developed on a priority basis.
Similarly, the plastic garbage in the Ramapuram dumping yard would be cleared and greenery developed in the vicinity.
The TFSC, a collaborative venture of the Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association and the Germany-based FNF, came forward with solutions on the industrial development front, as its president C. Babu offered support in training, consulting and knowledge sharing.
FSME national president A.P.K. Reddy spoke on the opportunities for small and medium enterprises to explore in a smart city.
Recalling the offer made by the Tirupati Chamber of Commerce to support green initiatives, its president A. Manjunath said they would sponsor not only a given number of saplings and tree guards, but also take the responsibility to grow them.
Gajulamandyam industrial estate advisor T. Kesavulu Naidu, Andhra Pradesh Hotels Association executive secretary K.V. Chowdary, chamber secretary P. Madhusudhana Rao, JLL Lead Chennai Urban Solutions resource person Simon Thomas were among the speakers.
