SAIL RSP modernization nearing completion.

Economic Times reported that 2 new units, a Basic Oxygen Furnace Converter in Steel Melting Shop-II and rolling facilities in the New Plate Mill were operationalized at Steel Authority of India's Rourkela Steel Plant. With this SAIL moved closer to its plan to raise the capacity of the plant to 10.8 million tonne per annum in the next phase of expansion by 2025.

Mr. CS Verma, chairman of SAIL, Mr. SS Mohanty Director (Technical), Mr. T S Suresh, Director (Projects and Business Planning) and CEO of RSP, Mr. GS Prasad. On the occasion Mr. Verma said that 'The commencement of operation of these two major units at RSP is a shot in the arm of the company towards completion of its ongoing modernisation and expansion plan. We have ambitious plans for RSP's further expansion to 10.8 million tonne per annum as part of SAIL's vision to attain a capacity of 50 million tonne per annum hot metal by 2025.'

With commencement of production in this new 150 T BOF and one million tonne per annum Plate Mill, all the major facilities under the modernization and expansion program at RSP have been operationalized. The entire integrated process route comprising the new Ore Bedding & Blending Plant, 360 square metre.
