Indian Railways Teams Up with Indofast Energy to Launch Battery Swap Stations in Twin Cities.
In a major push for sustainable urban transport, Indian Railways has partnered with Indofast Energy to install a network of battery swapping stations at railway hubs in the Hyderabad and Secunderabad divisions.
The initiative, a first-of-its-kind collaboration between Indian Railways and a private partner, has already seen 80 battery swap stations installed across 25 railway stations. These include 56 stations in the Secunderabad division and 24 in the Hyderabad division. There are plans to add 40 more stations over the next three months.
Led by South Central Railway, the project aims to support electric two- and three-wheelers, providing a seamless solution for last-mile connectivity. The facilities are designed to benefit commuters, delivery partners, and ride-sharing operators. This move also aligns with the Railway Board's policy to promote e-mobility at railway stations.
"We are immensely proud to partner with Indian Railways on this transformative journey," said Indofast Energy CEO Anant Badjatya.
R Gopalakrishnan, Divisional Manager of South Central Railway, added that the initiative "not only enhances passenger convenience but also reduces emissions and congestion around stations. It showcases how public-private collaboration can accelerate India’s green mobility goals."
Indofast Energy, a joint venture between IndianOil and SUN Mobility, has ambitious expansion plans, with a target of setting up over 10,000 swap stations across more than 40 cities within the next three years to serve over one million EV users.
