Deep sea port project to be costructed in West Bengal

West Bengal: If the announcements by the West Bengal Government are any indication, the country’s top industrial houses are vying with each other to construct the much-publicised deep-sea port off the coast of the State even as the Union Shipping Ministry is struggling to identify a consultant to prepare a detailed project report for the proposed project.

The bidders who had initially responded to the tender floated by the Ministry subsequently developed cold feet so that a fresh round of meeting had to be organised to assess the reason for their unwillingness. Reports suggest the Ministry is yet to zero in on the consultant. Meanwhile, the spokesman of a top industrial house has been quoted as saying the proposed port project would cost Rs 2,000 crore.
