Centre Greenlights ₹4,406 Crore, 2,280-Km Road Project in Border Areas of Rajasthan and Punjab.

The Union Cabinet approved a significant infrastructure initiative on Wednesday, greenlighting the construction of 2,280 kilometers of roads in the border areas of Rajasthan and Punjab. The project, with an estimated investment of ₹4,406 crore, aims to enhance connectivity and improve the quality of life for residents in these border regions.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the decision, emphasizing that it will not only facilitate transportation in border villages but also contribute to their development as 'Vibrant Villages.' He stated that this initiative reflects a shift in approach, focusing on developing border areas to provide facilities comparable to those in other parts of the country.

According to an official statement, the project is expected to significantly impact road and telecom connectivity while also improving water supply, healthcare, and education facilities. Additionally, it aims to enhance rural livelihoods, ease travel, and ensure that these areas are better connected to the broader highway network.

In a post on 'X', Shah reiterated the government's commitment to national security, stating, "Following the mantra of 'security of the border is the security of the nation,' the Modi government is continuously working to strengthen border infrastructure." He highlighted the approval of this extensive road project as a key step in that direction.
